Irish whiskey royalty has no place in Northern California, but that isn’t going to stop Iain Brennan, the black sheep of Brennan Family Distillers, from giving it a shot. Wine Country is an unlikely place to launch a whiskey empire, but Iain’s just reckless enough to make it work. And being out from under the watchful eye of his disapproving father back home in Dublin? Even better.

Naomi Klein has spent the last ten years ignoring her society family as much as possible while building a career as a renowned sculptor. She’s found a home in River Hill, but has no interest in dipping her toes into the commitment pool. Just the idea of forever gives her hives. Which makes a rootless Irish wanderer the perfect fling. And shocking her mother? Just a bonus.

But as cozy autumn nights turn into lazy winter mornings, Naomi and Iain realize that they’re getting close to something neither of them wants: love. When Naomi discovers Iain’s not quite as rootless as he seems, she’ll have to make some tough decisions. And when the Brennans and the Kleins descend en masse to collect their prodigal children, River Hill may never be the same.

REVIEW – This is the first book i have read by this author duo. It was a sweet romance story and had the most idyllic setting it sounded so lovely. Set at my fave time of year – Autumn, and with two characters who would never normally look at each other or focus on the idea of romance. But the romance that grows is sweet and fun and though not my normal type of book to read was very enjoyable.

Jamaila Brinkley writes historical romance with a hint of magic. Her Wizards of London series features thieves, duchesses, witches, and more indulging in mayhem and romance in Regency England. She is a member of the Romance Writers of America, and was a finalist in the Romance Through the Ages contest in 2015.

Jamaila came to romance as an avid reader of fantasy and science fiction, and found that her favorite historical romances seemed ripe for an injection of magic. Her favorite historical period is currently the Victorian era, and she’s never happier than when immersed in a multi-book family series.

Jamaila lives outside Baltimore, Maryland in a house that is perpetually under renovation with her husband and twin toddlers. Sometimes the best things in life come from the unexpected. So if you lower your expectations, then you’ll never be disappointed. Sound cheesy? It is, but it’s also true. Clichés come from a grain of truth…like a man with a Porsche is compensating for something, or once a cheater always a cheater—you get the idea. Sorry, I digress. I’m supposed to be telling you what this book is about.

I’m Megan Walker, a lawyer at one of the hottest boutique law firms in Atlanta. I’m on the fast track to making partner and have my entire life planned out…or I did.

We all know how that goes, right? Best laid plans and all that.

Life just threw me a couple curveballs, so I’ve set out to take things into my own hands. By throwing caution to the wind and getting out of my A-type personality bubble, I’m learning more about myself than I have in my twenty-seven years.

Sound like a chick flick, doesn’t it?

It’s not.

This author, what can i say she does amazing things to me with her writing. The first book i ever read of hers Razorblade Kisses broke me. This one Sunshine & Whiskey it invigorated me, made me laugh and made you see the sunshine through the clouds and made you feel alive. So this review is not going to go through the story as why do that – you need to read this book that is all that needs to be said. But i will tell you how the book made me feel.

I was reading this on the way back from a epic book trip to London with some new friends. And you know what it made me laugh so hard i got funny looks on the train, it made me appreciate my friends who know me and how when life throws you major douche bag lemons (you know who you are) you do not make lemonade you use those lemons as a mixer in your fave drink. This book showed me life is never straight forward and all we think it is. But there are those defining moments that show you how to be strong when your egyptian cotton sheets are ruined and how to be super awesome and walk with your head high.  I loved the female lead she works hard, plays hard and has moments of doubt but she puts each foot in front of the other and carries on her unusual journey. Also she drinks whiskey which is one of my fave drinks lol. This book may sound like a self help book it is not it is funny, has romance and sadness and a journey for the characters. It just is most refreshing read and unlike books i have read for a long time, it made me think. It is most certainly on my best book of the year list and it is only April. R.L. Griffin you are amazing love your writing it always consumes me and my emotions.

Sauls - 014

R.L. Griffin published her first book in 2004. After that she focused on practicing law. A few years ago she began writing the By A Thread series, which is out now. Her goal is to keep readers on their toes, whether it’s the plot twist or the book itself, her books are outside any box. There is a little bit of grit in most of her books and a ton of cussing. Most books are enjoyed better with a glass of wine, or whiskey, whatever your poison may be.

She lives in Atlanta with her husband, kid and dogs. She loves to travel and meet readers.
