A gripping mystery with a classic feel: And Then There Were None meets The Silent Companions.

Winter 1917. As the First World War enters its most brutal phase, back home in England, everyone is seeking answers to the darkness that has seeped into their lives.

At Blackwater Abbey, on an island off the Devon coast, Lord Highmount has arranged a spiritualist gathering to contact his two sons who were lost in the conflict. But as his guests begin to arrive, it gradually becomes clear that each has something they would rather keep hidden. Then, when a storm descends on the island, the guests will find themselves trapped. Soon one of their number will die.

For Blackwater Abbey is haunted in more ways than one . . .

An unrelentingly gripping mystery packed with twists and turns, A House of Ghosts is the perfect chilling read this winter.

REVIEW – I was looking for a thrilling and haunting read to keep me company as the nights have been drawing in, and this book proved perfect for that. A historical novel, fulls of secrets, and tension and hauntingly creepy passages both in the book and in Blackwater Abbey. I felt the historical context of the book added to the creepy-ness factor and the description was brilliant. The only thing that did ot give this book 5 stars for me was it took me a couple of attempts to get into the story, i did start it and had to put it down, i just could not connect with the book on the first try, but after leaving it a bit and taking another dive into the text i really enjoyed it.

The Problem With Him – Rachel Higginson

I’m over men. I’m done with them.

Or at least the ones that work in my kitchen. Fine, one man in particular. Wyatt Shaw is cocky and condescending and so far out of his element that he doesn’t know which way is up. Or how to run his brand new kitchen all by himself.

That’s where I come in. Sous chef extraordinaire. Second in command. Bane of his existence. I am the reason Wyatt’s doing so well as the new executive chef of one of our city’s most prestigious restaurants. He has me to thank for his glowing accolades and five-star write-ups. Only if you were to ask him, he’d say I’m his biggest problem.

Despite his discouragement and bullish behavior, I’ve set two goals for myself.

The first? I’m going to fight my way to the top of this male-dominated industry and claim my own award-winning kitchen.

The second? I’m going to do whatever it takes to ignore Wyatt and his rare smiles and the thickening tension that’s started to simmer between us.

Wyatt Shaw might be Durham’s new shining star. He might be up for a James Beard Award. He might be my new boss and key to my future success, but he’s also in my way.

So he can keep his smoldering looks and secret kisses. And he can be the one that figures out how to make it through service without getting distracted by me.

I’m not the problem. The problem is him.

REVIEW – Though part of a series this book can be read as a stand-alone. Rachel Higginson has created some engaging characters who you really begin to feel for. There is some serious sexual tension going on between Wyatt and Kaya. I loved how determined Kaya is to succeed to get to the top of her profession, but it would be hard for anyone to withstand the hotness that is Wyatt. Rachel has a smooth writing style it is easy to get sucked into her stories and i certainly did with this one.She does write many other types of books but i always love her contemporary romance stories.

“I’m impressed, chef. This is a good idea.”

His eyes sparked with the compliment, but his words surprised me. “You shouldn’t say that.”

That look was back, the one that had gotten me into so much trouble last night. One part confident, sexy man, two parts vulnerable and open.

“Say what?” I whispered.

“But you are a chef.”

His jaw ticked. Anger, I thought immediately. But it wasn’t. It was something else. And now it had me questioning every single time I’d seen it before. “And I like it far too much when you remind me.”

I laughed a breathy, girly sound. I couldn’t help it. Now he was flirting with me? Opening up to me? Sharing his plans for the future with me?

“Wyatt, what are you doing?”

His Adam’s apple bobbed up and down as he struggled to swallow. My eyes tracked every second of it.

“I’m trying not to kiss you, Kaya. I thought that was obvious.”

Now it was my turn to nearly choke on my tongue. “You’re ridiculous.”

“You’re beautiful.”

The Wall Of Winnipeg & Me – Mariana Zapata

Vanessa Mazur knows she’s doing the right thing. She shouldn’t feel bad for quitting. Being an assistant/housekeeper/fairy godmother to the top defensive end in the National Football Organization was always supposed to be temporary. She has plans and none of them include washing extra-large underwear longer than necessary.

But when Aiden Graves shows up at her door wanting her to come back, she’s beyond shocked.

For two years, the man known as The Wall of Winnipeg couldn’t find it in him to tell her good morning or congratulate her on her birthday. Now? He’s asking for the unthinkable.

What do you say to the man who is used to getting everything he wants?

REVIEW – Ok where do i start, i have some very good friends in a book group who are super fans of this author. I have always wanted to read her work, after never hearing anyone say anything bad, but i did not know which one to start with. So a couple of weeks ago i jumped into this book. Well what can i say i did not want it to finish but i wanted to keep reading to find out what would happen next. Emotions play across the chapters not always so obvious to the reader but they are there and become such an important part of the story as we see the characters grow. At the beginning i found Aiden an ass, yes it is true, but then i grew to love this character, i could understand the way he was it leads to less disappointment. Vanessa is so perfect, i felt like she represents every woman who reads this story – she has doubts, she has conviction in her decisions, she loves deeply and carefully. But what i love most about this story is the way both characters become stronger and more secure with themselves and each other as the story goes on. I do not feel my words do this story justice but right now in this time of decisions in my life i really felt like Vanessa and Aiden gave me a chance to escape everyday dilemmas and to see that there is hope at the end sometimes you just have to give it a shot like these two did. #teamgraves PS 5 stars is not enough for this book i will never forget it and how he story made me feel

It’s what
got you killed.
And now I

You weren’t
here when I needed you to save me.
You weren’t
here when I needed help solving the most gruesome murder this town had ever
But most of
all, you weren’t here to keep me from falling in love with your wife.
Review – Gripping story right here. A murder, a desire, and a line that should not but could be crossed. This romantic suspense story. The suspense was just great through the book, looking for the murderer, but also the romantic tension was at the perfect level of simmer and it kept you longing for one of the characters of Grace or Wyatt taking the next step. Book 1 in a new series by this author, and i am so looking forward to book 2 and its release in this series
